Deming relating articles

I encourage authors to publish articles through the DEN web site, or in some
way online, in addition to any Journal publishing. I realize some journals
may have objections to doing so, at first. I think it would be a good idea
to start changing such opinions. Over time, hopefully, we could help the
journals understand that it is a good idea to share information widely.

The Curious Cat Management Improvement Library:

    http://www.curiouscat.com/guides/library.htm

will maintain a list of Journal's that encourage internet distribution of
articles so that DEN authors can publish through sources that will let their
ideas reach the widest audience. If journals wanted to keep online
publication delayed for 3 months, or longer, (to encourage people to
subscribe) I don't see any problem with that.

The Center for Quality of Management publishes an excellent journal online.
Quality Digest also publishes their articles online. I encourage authors to
use journals that will allow everyone on the DEN (and others) access over the
internet.

I imagine one issue, for academic authors, is publishing in peer reviewed
journals. I think we should work together to support such management
journals that share information over the internet and encourage those that
don't to do so. I also imagine the idea makes some journals nervous but I
think it is a good idea and we should work on to address the issues that may
give a journal pause in publishing online.

I plan to expand the information about journals that offer online publication
to the Curious Cat Management Improvement Library so I would appreciate
information on worthwhile journals. Also the library accepts documents for
consideration and if we accept the document can publish it on our site or
link to it elsewhere on the web.

I have been working on trying to get the Center for Quality and Productivity
Improvement at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to make their reports
available online for years (yes years). At this point my experience tells me
the only thing that will make it happen is pressure from two sources:

1) the top of the pyramid (the Governor of Wisconsin, the Chancellor, the
Dean of the College of Engineering at the UW-Madison, Barry Alvarez - the
Football Coach...)
2) big money contributors to the Center, the College of Engineering, the UW
in general. Large businesses in Wisconsin also have influence, as the
University likes to work with them.

Their reports are a treasure of knowledge with authors including George Box,
William G. Hunter, W. Edwards Deming, Kaoru Ishikawa, F. Timothy Fuller,
William A. Golomski, Brian L. Joiner and Peter R. Scholtes, Gipsie Ranney,
Ian Bradbury and many others. I encourage you to help, if you have any
influence with those in either of the sources, listed above.
