Chaos and Control

Subject: Chaos and Control
From: Ed Baker (lifemap@ix.netcom.com)

There has been recent discussion on the DEN about whether nature tends to move to control or
chaos. I do not think these concepts are opposites. What looks like chaos from a short-term or
otherwise limited viewpoint, looks stable from another.

Nature appears to be in control, if one considers sufficient "temporal spread," but is thrown out
of control when human's intervene without the requisite profound knowledge to anticipate enough of
the consequences to make a wise decision.

Everything wears down and dies. In Nature, that is the process for continuing life. When man-made
objects wear down. they often are not so easily returned to the earth to be reused, although some
firms are working on improving that situation, especially since it is becoming more and more a
profitable venture.
