I want to add to John McConnell's observations:

This is the beauty of Profound Knowledge.  Systems thinking helps understand
variation here.

If there is a process that tends toward control or stability, it must have a
negative feedback loop in there somewhere.  (rules 1 and 2 of funnel)

If there is a process that does not tend toward control or stability, it
must have a positive feedback loop in there somewhere that causes the
process to go to the Milky-Way.  (rules 3 and 4 of funnel)
