British Deming Association
I regret to inform you that the following letter was sent by Dave Taeger,
Chairman of the Board of Directors, to members of the British Deming
Association on the 29th of February. See below.
Alan Winlow
Marshalls plc
29th February 2000
Dear Member
It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that the BDA has found
itself in the position of being unable to meet its financial commitments
despite major efforts from many individuals to remedy this. The main
contributors to this situation have been :
1. The aftermath of the fraud notified to members in the letter dated
18th January 2000 has left us with considerable debts. The subsequent
police investigation made it impossible to monitor the position adequately
until the investigation was concluded and we have only recently become
aware of the full extent of the damage caused.
2. We would have been able to recover from this situation had it not been
for a significant decline in membership and the associated income.
The board has resolved that it would be in the best interests of the
Association to engage a corporate recovery specialist to advise us, and we
have contacted Smith & Williamson (Chartered Accountants) in this regard.
Further details will be sent to you by Smith & Williamson in the next few
days.
In the meantime, the Board is very sorry that it is come to this and would
like to thank all those who have given their earnest support to the
Association.
Yours faithfully
Dave Taeger
Chairman
[Moderator's Note: I have already heard from some of the BDA Regional
Directors that they hope to continue in some capacity to serve their
constituents. We will continue to assist from this venue.
