Re: What charts does a CEO need?: Warning, Danger Ahead!

There has been a lot of interesting, and good input on this question. (Even
I, earlier, responded to one of them with the following input:

<
Do managers even WANT data presented in a clear manner that will help them
 make appropriate decisions? >>

Great input! My own experience is that, "NO! The vast majority of managers do
NOT want data presented in a clear manner, especially with control charts, as:
    a. they haven't got a clue as to what the chart really means,
    b. their "sense of importance" will not let them admit that "they
don't know," and
    c. they have already made their decision and want no part of data
that might indicate a different course/decision is more desirable."

There is a far more basic and underlying problem, however. Let's go back to
the SoPK and WED's teachings:

#1 If you do not understand/appreciate the system and the aim of the system
there is no way you can ever know what variations, charts, behaviors
(psychological elements), or predictions will contribute to improvement. All
you can do is tamper.

#2 The most important elements of a system ARE NOT MEASURABLE.

So, in real sense supporting both Jerry's and Nick's contribution, "What
charts does a CEO need?" IS A DUMB QUESTION!

The answer, ALWAYS, is "IT DEPENDS!"

Depends on what?

Show me the system (not just the internal parts of your subsystem, show from
your supplier's supplier(s) to your customer's customer(s)), define it's
aim/purpose, define the vision and values that support that entire system and
vision and show me how they support the next higher level system of which all
these elements are "parts."

Tough? YOU BET! That's what WED said at every single 4-Day and in every
video. But until it's done then the ONLY thing we can accomplish (as our
history clearly shows) is tampering.

It is not without purpose and understanding that the SoPK begins with
systems.
