The simple questions are always the hardest. Questions such as:
1. Who are we?
2. What business are we in?
3. What business are we not in?
4. Where are we headed in the long term?
5. What are the priorities for the short term?
6. What values and principles should be characteristic of all our
relationships and all what we do?
If our theory is correct your organizational purpose and direction are
ambiguous and constantly shifting. With an unclear or inconstant purpose
the system will suffer from chaos and dysfunction.
Your business seems to be gift providing.
Start with the first 6 questions then bring pride back to your
organization. Pride is something you can not buy with material objects.
I am proud to be able to share this with you because my mission statement
is:
I help myself through helping others and am ever conscious that some
really don't want help and some don't really want to help. That is the
beauty of it!!!
Others questions to handle after the first 6 are done.
What is my own personal job and how do my functions and operations fit
into the larger purposes and system of the organization?
How will improvements to my job be accomplished? Who will do the
improvements and by what method? Will I be involved in these improvements?
How?
What sources and forms of feedback are available to help me know how I'm
doing?
Respectfully,
Charlie Miller
