J. L. Draws,  Asked about changing supervisors and dropping incentives.

Several times I have eliminated piece work. In every case production went up
not down, up as much as 300%. We coupled the change with, "Improve the way
the work is done and do not work if the process is not right."  We gave the
power to the operators to fix repair and change. We added SPC. We acted on
SPC data not a few arts to spec.

We also paid individuals based on their past performance so they did not
suffer a loss in pay. We redline and over time (years) brought pay inline.

Sometime the supervisors were able to adapt sometimes not.
I have developed a manger training package to enable them to understand the
principles and tools of CI. For those that listen, try and understand life
becomes more enjoyable and the company more stable.
