No, not at all. What about the 14 points? Or Deming's
chapter on leadership in TNE? Or the whole of the
SoPK?
Perhaps what you mean is that WED distrusted *recipes*.
That applied to the "mechanical" aspects of processes
just as much as to human interactions.
If you really understand the SoPK you will see things
so differently that you do things better without conscious
effort. If this doesn't work, that may be because the systemic
transformation of the organisation is not far advanced.
I know that many Deming adherents, not through choice,
but necessity, are trying to make some kind of progress
in organisations which are almost totally untransformed.
Then, I suppose, recipes may make the best of a bad
job - but the effect may be short lived.
I will try to show in follow-up messages that Deming
did recommend many practical approaches to this and other
problems. We tend not to notice them, because they
embody a "low-profile" approach, especially to changing
people. And this low profile approach, I believe, shows just
how much he appreciated the human interactions.
