NOTES FROM THE BAY AREA DEMING USERS GROUP MEETING

[Moderator's Note: Some of these dates have passed as I did not get the
messages processed in a timely manner...

Our next meeting is on Monday, 1 May, 2000 from 6:00-8:30pm, at
Acuson in Mountain View at Shoreline Boulevard and Shorebird Way.
Detailed directions available below.

PLANNED PROGRAMS:

1 May: Some of the key aspects of Dr. Deming's philosophy include
the following: an individual's healthy relationship with himself;
the joy taken in accomplishing work; always striving to do one's
best; cooperation; teamwork; and freedom to contribute.

HeartMath is a dynamic process based on scientific research
showing that we all have the ability to easily access more of
our intelligence more often. This month's session will help
you to better understand why you feel smarter sometimes than
others, and how you can change this ratio to your advantage.

Dialogue with Jim Grove and Euphrasia Carroll, two members of
the HeartMath organization, around continuous improvement of
individuals and systems in an informal, interactive discussion
-- We hope to have a lively, engaging evening! For more
information on HeartMath, visit their website at:
http://www.heartmath.com

5 June: Marty Kandes will share his personal experience and
observations of work and management in organizations with Deming-
oriented values. Both the challenges and the opportunities will
be discussed.

April's Meeting Notes:

Pat McMahon facilitated a discussion on the topic of variation
as an facet of Dr. Deming's System of Profound Knowledge. This
was a continuation of a previous session on the same topic, where
we found there simply was not enough time to cover everything
brought up in the discussion. Pat prepared a set of handouts
that we will attempt to post to the BADUG web pages -- Watch
for them to be there soon. Thanks go to Pat for both
facilitating the presentation and standing in for me as meeting
coordinator!
