RE: Survey analysis tool

John David Kromkowski asked is the method you describe at
http://www.hanford.gov/safety/vpp/survey.htm)
a version of ICC -- interclass correlation.?

My response: I don't know. The original concept came from a class in
"scaling techniques" as part of my Operations Research degree at the Naval
Postgraduate. Professor Glenn Lindsay (who is now retired in Portland OR)
taught this technique from his paper "On Constructing Interval Scales Using
Data Resulting from Categorical Judgements. I have talked with Professor
Lindsay a few years back when I compressed his paper down to the file on the
internet. He gave primary credit for the technique to a 1958 book by W S
Torgenson called "Theory and Methods of Scaling", published by Wiley.

It sounds like from your description of ICC that it is indeed very similar.
