Having (quite some time ago) been one of those "chefs," I will say, to the
contrary, that you are exactly right. The recipe, to be strictly followed, is
for "the cook," who does not have the "understanding, adaptation, and
thought" of the chef and that allows the chef the freedom/potential
creativity of the "method."
