FW: What is the purpose of a commercial firm?

I feel this discussion has stalled and I am only hearing
people restate their own views. May I suggest, as a
way of continuing discussion, that proponents of various
definitions compare and contrast their definition with
Dr. Deming's? I am thinking of the definition on page 51
of _The New Economics_,
"The aim proposed here is for everyone to gain -
stockholders, employees, suppliers, customers,
community, the environment - over the long term."
I think this is an interesting area of discussion but I
think we need a framework to allow us to analyze
different suggestions. In what ways would alternate
purposes be better replacements for what Dr. Deming
proposed?
Sincerely,
Wayne Mack
