Re: No Subject

Just a thought to join with Roger Key's remarks on the continuous nature of
transformation. To borrow some of the Juran language, we can be dealing with
improvement of an existing process, or "breakthrough" that substantively
involves scrapping one process and moving to a new one, we are still dealing
with the continuous nature of all existence (thus, WED's
"Never-ending-improvement") and life itself.

We note that this concept is some times lost by failing to understand the
three "faces"/purposes/aims if ALL systems, beginning with the highest level
of any system itself, and then continuing through all subsystems, parts and
inter=relationships within the system.

Those three "faces"/purposes/aims may be phrased as follows:
Any thing/system you consider has:
1. an "essential" "face"/purpose/aim
2. a "technological" "face"/purpose/aim, and
3. a socio-political "face"/purpose/aim.

Let's use an analogy to help us understand this; a person goes into a
hardware store to buy a drill bit.

The technological "face"/purpose/aim of his visit is to obtain a device
manufactured from iron ore and converted into a specific physical shape and
hardness that will fit with an existing technological tool (the drill) to
penetrate a specific surface with a specific dimensional penetration.

The socio-political "face"/purpose/aim of his visit is to use a socially
sanctioned means of exchange (money) obtained in an ethical fashion, and
totaling a socially determined amount (price) allowing a fair profit to a
merchant who structured and maintains the delivery process (store) plus a
government share to monitor the overall process (taxes).

The essential "face"/purpose/aim of the purpose is to satisfy a person's need
for a hole.

(Oh, we could take it to a higher system and demonstrate an eventual
essential link to human happiness, but we'll leave that for a later effort.)

Now there may be many transformations that take place in the socio-political
and technological "faces"/purposes/aims
while the essential aim "to get a hole" remains continuous (and, likewise, at
each higher level, as the lower levels "transform").

Wow! And I started off "to help?" Hope this hasn't confused the issue. More,
later (IF desired) as part of general info on the systems thinking aspect of
the SoPK.

it is time to start over.
