RE: REQUEST: why should education and self improvement be encouraged?

Well, Jeff.

Let me put it this way: would you want your next operation to be
performed by a doctor who had not made a steady effort over the years
since his degree to maintain his skills?

Do you want your GP to be up on the latest information in the world of
medicine when you go to him for a diagnosis about the strange cough you
are having?

How about your car: what if the mechanic you choose has not seen the
inside of a textbook or repair manual since he graduated from trade
school in the 70s?

How about the aircraft mechanic who services your plane before you go
aboard for a trip?

My point is: we all must endeavor to keep up with the changes in our
professions, and a seemingly-innocent job of cleaning the floors in your
office building is now taking more-and-more education as new materials
and processes are in use. The same goes for dry cleaning, food
preparation, and various other services. How about the knowledge your
travel agent demonstrates next time you want the best deal on a trip?

Someone once said something like, "When we stop learning, we might as
well be dead."

I know that WED encouraged education and training.
