Re: SPC software for the Mac

I always use the graphical facilities of the ClarisWorks/AppleWorks
word-processing package that comes with every Mac. There are
two advantages to this.

1 The resulting charts are already in the WP package form, ready to
    be pasted into any report.

2 It does the tedious bit for me (drawing the graphs) but above all it
makes me think through the assumptions from first principles. There
*may* be such a thing as a "routine" application of control charts,
but I haven't seen one yet.

But even this degree of mechanisation may remove the charts
from the shop floor to the back office. Ideally the worker on
the process should add the points as they come in. That's much
easier with pencil and paper.

To avoid boring the Microsoft users on the DEN, I will answer
questions directly from other Mac users. Even produce specimen
charts, if the send their own data. We have a study group that
looks at control charts regularly, and I would hope that any data
sent can be shown to that group. We are used to observing strict
confidentiality, and the figures can be presented anonymously to
the group.

Best wishes

David
