Re: MIL-STD 105E

John,

I can recommend Eugene L.Grant and Richard S.Leavenworh's book 'Statistical
Quality Control". It is about SPC but also has a few chapters on acceptance
(scientific) sampling.

A word of caution by the authors:

"It should be pointed out that Dodge and his colleagues did not intend that
sampling for acceptance purposes should stand alone or be used as a
substitute for statistical process control as has been implied by some
practitioners and consultants. The intent in using an acceptance sampling
procedure is to verify that quality standards are being met or that time and
logistic movements have not caused quality to deteriorate to an unacceptable
level. In no published Bell Laboratories literature of the time is there
the claim or implication that one statistical procedure was intended to
replace another."

Be cat-foot John, acceptance sampling can be downright dangerous if
implemented for acceptance/rejection purposes.

"To introduce sampling schemes without adequately considering how they will
operate is the height of foolishness" - M.J.Moroney
