I think we lose sight that the employee having joy and pride in work,
knowing why and how as it relates to their job, being supported with the
resources they need to be successful are, in some way included in the
measurement world. The company employees being able to focus on customer's
needs at all levels is important. Sampling has less weight than a well
trained caring employee who has access to what the customer's needs are.
We get off in our main ologies (science, study or field) and into the
analytical world too often. We identify with it.
We assure no or slow change because our methods are our weapons for
salvation. Now a days our salvation requires new weapons and we do not
realize that because we use the same thought processes that got us where we
are.
A Charlie Miller theory: 100 percent sample or no sample will do best if
the employee has joy and pride in work. If we cooperate more we have less
waste. Risk management is more successful when employees have joy and pride
in work. Joy and pride of work is discovered when the employee is interview
at home with the family members and that employee wants to be interviewed
there.
GE and others may think that employees will automatically have joy and
pride of work when they set a goal and obtain it. Obtain it by using
younger, fast track, supervisors to do the same type of supervising they
have always done. Only this time with a black belt.
Does six sigma include Psychology, Appreciation of the system,
Understanding of Variation and Theory of Knowledge?
When we discover the, "Why," we measure, it has to include all the
elements of Profound Knowledge. When we discover the, "How," we measure, it
too has to include the elements of Profound Knowledge
I think it all boils down to these two beliefs: Workers are self motivated
and self starting and will rise to the occasion Vs Workers will not self
motivate and will not self start and will not rise to the occasion.
Respectfully,
Charlie Miller
