In our experience systems thinking cannot be established through a training
intervention. All organisations ARE systems, they are just not understood
and managed as such.
The first step in change is to gain an understanding of the what and why of
the organisation's performance as a system. We have developed a model for
doing that (again, on the site). Who does this (managers or workers)
depends on where the intervention is going. People find this work to be
something that changes their thinking - it is what we call a normative
intervention (training, by contrast is something we call 'rational' - no
good for 'conversion').
