RE: Misconceptions about Deming

  Charlie's Thoughts:

If we think about it in the world of issues developed in the past
(Schools, Universities, Businesses), we are taught about the cause and
effect. We have memorized those issues well and to us no other issues
exist.
If we are applying the Deming Philosophy, the world of issues change. The
identifying of cause and effect change. Methods are different.

My theory is that we are constantly pushing processes past their
capabilities.

I do not know if any group in the World has ever identified a system
because we are still grappling with the supposed fact that a system may have
more than one aim.
If a corporations has the aim of maximizing the dividends to the stock
holders, then that is the aim and no other aim takes priority over that aim.
If another aim comes up it is for another system.
That is the simplicity of it and the complication too.
When we work on our career advancement, that is a system we are working
in. When we work on the longevity of the company that is another system we
are working in.
Now a days with the, "What's in it for me," mentality we work on our
careers by falsifying the capabilities of the critical processes in the
company's system that employees us.

I believe this is what Dr. Deming saw. He did not know that he was going
to be trying to relate that to some many ostriches (sticking their heads in
the sand). It is not just the CEO's and Vice Presidents, it is also the
Union Presidents and Vice Presidents along with a lot of the everyday
critical mass. They do not understand because it challenges their world of
issues that I first mentioned. What's in it for me has to give way to
what's in it for us. Then, with luck, we will have a chance. The first
stage of understanding is to realize I am part of the us.
  How could they know???
  Respectfully,
  Charlie

[Moderator's Note: There has been quite a bit of discussion in the past
about the reality of multiple aims as well as aim hierarchies for a given
system.
