Worldwide competition

Le Monde, Sunday 14 January 2001, reported that the population of red
squirrels has nearly disappeared from England and Wales, owing to the
competition with grey squirrels, imported from North America. According to
the British scientist Tom Tew, the two species cannot harmoniously live
together, because red squirrels can eat hazel-nuts only when they are
perfectly mellow, while grey squirrels can eat them earlier. Therefore many
red squirrels don't survive in winter. The population of red squirrels is
also decreasing in North Europa, owing to the same competition.

The same competition exists between people and their ways of living. But
the human species isn't doomed to undergo the same natural law as animal
species. We are aware that we form a worldwide community, and we want to
manage ourselves in order to live together harmoniously. Therefore the aim
of States should not be to organize wild competition between people, but on
the contrary to respect differences, to protect disadvantaged people, and
to foster win-win cooperation. Does the so called Globalization run like
this? I don't think so.
