Chaos and topographic diagrams

HI All,
Brave new year to you all.
I am - foolishly - reaquainting myself with the basics of chaos. Kinda
interesting as I find the maths behind an XmR trying enough.... There is a
section in Gleick's "Chaos" (p50) where he discusses the representation of
data as a time series (looks remarkably like a run chart - probably because
it is) and representing the same data in phase space - identifying
(graphically) the nature of the system.
For no other reason other than interest - at the moment - has anyone tried
doing the same with the data for a control chart? Can anyone help me with
the conversion from time series to phase space?
Thanks
R
Roger.
