As Jonathan Siegel says, variation is not inherently bad,
though it is bad in most cases. Bad education reduces variation

people are different, and as it helps each of us to develop our own

will reduce variation in our answers to a calculation)

In addition to the comments by David and others, we are wise to remember the
difference between variation and variety, something Deming often pointed
out. A great chef provides his customers a lot of variety, but produces
meals, night after night, that have very little variation.
