Quality Management In Europe

For two years I have been selling Volkswagens in Oklahoma City.  The high quality of Volkswagens has been a complete and appreciated surprise to me.  After reading Jim's post on the Swiss Deming Institute and reading the articles on this site I am wondering "What is Volkswagen doing different?"

Is it the leadership of Ferdinand Piech, Chairman of Volkswagen, A.G.?  Is he a follower of W. Edwards Deming?

I tell my customers these are the reasons the cars they have purchased are unlike any other vehicles they have ever driven, i.e., so superior.  Am I right?
