Neither, it is arrogance! and it appears that you have an individual who is
not committed to learning and personal self-development.

Besides, it is always very sexy rushing around with the sirens going and the
blue lights flashing being seen to be very busy 'crisis managing' and
putting out fires. What is so attractive about the alternative or  'better
way' that they are being offered.


 I have similar difficulties in getting my colleagues to see the wood for
the trees and would welcome some of your experiences that may help me move
things on in my world.

I firmly believe that what we need to develop and hone our skills of change
management and organisational development. It sounds like your manager just
does not see the need to change.

A colleague (from outside my organisation) shared with me the 'change
equation' some time ago that has helped me open the dialogue on the need and
opportunity for change.

The equation takes the following format:

C = V x D x I x F

Where:

C = Change will only take place
V = There is a Vision of a better future
D = There is a level of Dissatisfaction with the current situation
I = There is an Intent to do something about it
F = There is some understanding of the First steps that need to happen

The only reason for a mathematical formula is to illustrate that change will
only occur if each of the components V,D,I and F are present. If any one is
absent then, like in mathematics anything multiplied by zero = zero and
change will not take place.
