In the army there are enlisted persons, lance corporals, corporals,
sergeants, second lieutenant and so on. This would be described as your
"rank". Is this ranking?

So the accepted practice of paying one group of people more than another, as
in say, manager gets paid more than a worker. This is not ranking?
