I like to take advantage of replying( read 'echoing') Don's mail to thank
Prof. David Kerridge and Jean-Marie to prepare Our Special Report on W. A.
Shewhart . Jean-Marie provides me his Foreword of French version of
Statistical Method from the Viewpoint of Quality Control. I like Jean-Marie
quoted Dr. Shewhart's words in chapter 1,

"The long range contribution of statistics depends not so much upon getting
a lot of highly trained statisticians into industry as it does on creating
a statistically minded generation of physicists, chemists, engineers and
others who will in any way have a hand in developing and directing the
production processes of tomorrow."
The education of statistics for the general public and ' our masters' is
important. I like to share with DEN one book I think is nice: Randomness by
Deborah J. Bennet, Harvard University Press, 1998.

'What is the fundamental role of statistical method in such control? How
far can man go in controlling his physical enviroment? How does this
depend upon the human factor of intelligence and how upon the element of
chance?' W. A. Shewhart (1939)
