Here is a curious tactic more recently used in management: Under the guise
of democracy (but with no secret ballot nor institutional history of actual
democracy nor actual authority or control being transferred to any one other
that actual management), censor discussion about improvement or change of
status quo "until" vote happens.
Does any one even know what a web-based forum looks like or how it works? Do
we know what a DEN would look like if it was unmoderated? Do we know how many
hours each week Jim spends being an editor and what that actually entails?
Does he correct spelling? Why or why not? Should unsubstantiated suggestions
that Deming embraced or would have embraced Bayesian methods, be moderated
off or not? Why? Do we understand the value of the DEN to lurkers who seldom
or never post? Is the DEN actually valuable? How would we know? Could it be
more valuable? Who's in charge? And by what method shall improvement proceed?
If Deming were hired as a consultant to the DEN, what would his report look
like? How would he go about helping the DEN?
