RE: search for status as intrinsic motivation

There is a long history of scientists finding what they are looking for, in
the sense that the data they record supports their initial hypothesis, and a
different hypothesis directs attention to other data. You might want to look
at An Introduction to Social Construction by K Gergen.

This is an interesting issue for Denizens because measurement behind
analysis of whether processes are under statistical control purports to be
objective and replicable. I think you will recognise from studying the DEN
list however that most people understand that the questions with which a
situation is addressed are crucial. In fact if the spirit of that approach
and those questions is not constructive and loving, only destruction will
result.

The difference between internal and external motivation lies not in any
clear dividing line between what is in my thoughts and what is in yours (no
such line can be drawn) but in your intention to motivate (change, improve)
me. You will see also that this is where the DEN list typically falls down.
People want to improve each other rather than themselves.

I hope this helps.
