Internet team learning--a case

Dear DENizens,

Last week I posted a three questions from Taiwan and asked for help.

Actually I could spend several minutes and replied it in real time. But
I decided to try to invite DENizens and two of our 'subscribers' to
help.

I compiled the case of this team learning experiment and we are all very
satisfied with it.

I like to thank the friends in DEN, Myron Tribus, David Kerridge( 5
mails and three articles), Jean-Marie, J. Crow,Steve Prevette, Bill
Scherkenbach, and Kevin Lin and Mr. Lin located in Taiwan.

Dr. Tribus's one was posted in DEN and Kevin translated it into Chinese
to help our customer' s understanding.( I added with a practice by IBM
International Procurement Office to award a ZD Supplier for product like
monitor and so on here as the so-called 'conformity'.)

Bill used an example of 'lantern' mechanism issues for 'conformity vs.
design quality' due to not listening to the voice of the customers. ( I
use the web failure modes and 'design' case). Bill also told us some
stories of PDSA in Ford. I like his concluding episode with the
following note,

'That incident also drove me to purchase a set of the Oxford English
Dictionary so that I could begin to anticipate these things since Deming
had apparently memorized it. (or so it seemed) I guess it was fear that
motivated me.'

Jean-Marie, Mr. Crow and Steve all do some elaboration on PDSA. I
translated J-M's famous "' study' or 'check', it is 'Comprendre',
which means in English'understand'". So, in the beginning, there is no
love-hate issues here, this is understandable.

I read David to demonstrate the power of Scottish 'tutorial' system and
wondered Dr. Deming's word that 'The aim of this book( The New
Economics) is to start the reader on the road to knowledge, and to
create a yearning for more knowledge.'

I had a chat with David and he told me he is 'Well, my problem is that I
am still learning. There are three things for me to learn.

First, and most important, what is true

Second, why people cannot see it

Third, how to explain it so that they will see it.

I think I am making progress, but it is very slow on all three.'

Well, what a learning journey for us.
Thanks again for all the actors and teachers, the platform DEN and the
vehicle Internet . To quote the concluding remarks of Erwin Schrodinger
on ' Nature and the Greek' : And from all this we feel that any thought
to during this time will not have being thought in vain'.
