I have to agree with John concerning how few 'quality'
organizations actually live what they preach. Some years ago I was a senior
quality manager for a major computer manufacturing firm. They received a
state quality award that I helped them to get. The award was based solely
on whether or not the firm had written policies for quality in place and not
whether they were following them.
While the manufacturing divisions were following quality
processes extremely well, this award was for service quality based on the IT
organization's adherence. This was a myth and the entire company knew
it...but we did have great written procedures...
