RE: Grading Students & Bill Gates

Management has known from the beginning of time that if the worker
(student) would only work a little harder then everything would get better.

Lets make another law stating that if students do not work harder every
year we will automatically expel them. Our formula will be A+B+C+D = Y. Y
is the amount of working hard. After taking data for a while we will set
the expulsion limit, but wait!!! What are the values of A if A is the
individual energy capability of the student at time of evaluation? What if
the value of B if B is the emotional state of the student at the time of
evaluation? What is the value of C if C is the value of outside
requirements put upon the student at the time of evaluation? What is the
value of D if D is the current evaluators assessment of the student at the
time of evaluation?
Most of all, are these the critical indicators that help this student to
be the best?
How will this approach help to reduce variation and enhance prediction?
I respectfully tell you that peacetime activities demand more of us.
Managers are required to do more. Most of the time managers are trained to
do less during times of peace. They get involved in advancement or other
acceptable activities.
During peace the routine that is critical is really, really urgent. I
have not read this in the management books or self help books that I have
used.
  Something to think about,
  Respectfully,
  Charlie
