Do we (the DEN system) have an Aim?
Is it clearly communicated?
Are we creating an environment in which all participants can contribute (if
they wish to)?
Does the existing system involve, or tap into the intellectual potential of
all players to further the aim, and isn't this a key principle of 4th
Generation Management?
Do we have fun?

I'll give 5/5 to the above.

Leadership like customers comes in many and various forms, shapes and sizes.

There are possibly two world views guiding our development - either order is
imposed from outside by some omnipotent being or some such (aligned with the
creationist view of life), or that order is self-emergent and derived from a
complex web of interconnectivity and relationships (a quantum physics/
evolutionary biological viewpoint). I personally favour the latter.
(as I have said in a previous posting) Organisations (Like the DEN) are
natural living systems that are self-regulating, interdependent and bring
forth diversity.
This is not however to confuse self-emergent order with anarchy, the
determining criteria for evolution are complex feedback loops with checks
and balances that have determined the development of the Universe for the
last 15 billion years or so.

It might be interesting to postulate that once the aim (and the methods) are
clearly defined 'for sustainable evolution all we have to do is to stop
interfering with (sub-optimising) these basic processes', in other words
work with nature and not against it.

When we are considering just how wonderful and superior the human race is,
we might like to reflect on just how short has been our time as a dominant
species ( >4 million years) compared to the dinosaurs (60 million years).

With current practices under the 'Leadership' of men (and women) I wonder if
we too will have such a window of evolutionary opportunity as those
prehistoric giants.
