What is the data telling us? Only one thing: there most probably is an
ASSIGNABLE CAUSE to the lower voter turnout. A good / truthful headline
would have read "Voter turnout statistically shown to be abnormally low".
What we don't know is WHY this is the case ... voter apathy is a likely
candidate, but there are many others. What does the disease criss-crossing
the country have to do with the voter turnout - if anything? What does the
early landslide prediction for Blair have to do with the voter turnout - if
anything? Lots of possible causes.
Good reporting would have reported facts (turnout data) as facts, and hunches
(voter apathy) as hunches.
