Except for the famous diagram on page 4 of Out of the Crisis, I never
saw a flow chart used by Dr. Deming. He may have used such, but I
never saw them.
You are on target when you speak of the absence of people from the
typical flow chart. This is why I championed the "Deployment Flow
Chart" which uses a "cast of characters" in a set of boxes across the
top of the page.
Whenever an action is to be taken, the symbol for
that action shows beneath the box of the person most responsible. I
produced a set of video tapes to illustrate how to use deployment
flow charting. In particular the video discussed what to do with
flow charts after you have made them. After all, you are not
learning to flow chart; you flow chart to learn.
