Dear Myron:

The actions you speak of that are to be taken by the "cast of characters" are 
special acts.  Most flow diagrams seek to portray these actions as tasks.  
People, though, take some very specific acts to make action happen in our 
world - they are:

Request
Declare
Offer
Promise (form of declaration)
Assess 
Assert

I am working with a particular approach to viewing processes as a complex set 
of coordinated speech acts.  The approach is quite easy to understand and 
allows the realization of many of the things Dr. Deming spoke about.  The 
approach brings some of the ideas to life better than anything I have ever 
seen.  Without my background of obviousness with regard to Dr. Deming's 
system of profound knowledge, the approach would have likely gone by in my 
blind spot.
