Re: Ford embraces Six Sigma

Del Nelson:

I am well aware of the work Dr. Deming contributed in The New Economics. The
portrayal of systems does not include the complex network of commitments that
drive action. Dr. Deming simply did not have the distinctions with which to
view a system as a complex network of coordinated commitments. Don't suppose
that you are the only of us who are deeply involved in work to understand and
improve human systems. You simply are not. Inclusion of people in the
"system" of profound knowledge need not come from someone in the field of
psychology - we can look to speech act theory for a very interesting view of
human coordination systems.

My contention is that I, in my work with organizations, have found the work
Dr. Deming did in need of other elements to be more useful in terms of
achieving transformational results. I owe much of my professional success to
Dr. Deming and some of the people who were close to him. I believe he and
those I know that were very close to him would be quite proud of the work
that is going on to extend my understanding and use of the great body of work
Dr. Deming left.
