Has it occurred to anyone but me that the probability of two members of
the DEN finding the exact same fortune in two different cookies, in
restaurants far across the country from each other, is too random as to
be accidental?
I propose we all hasten to our favorite Chinese restaurant and have
something to eat, and examine the resulting fortune. We would then each
send our fortune to Jim for tabulating (sorry Jim but bear with me).
If most of us report that we have received the same fortune as our two
correspondents reported, then can we presume that the teachings of WED
have truly become commonplace and universal?
After all, prior to WED's career, who had ever heard of the concept of
"profound thought"?
Then again, can it be said that we Denizens are more profound than most
people because we think a lot?
To address your question directly, Dick, I believe that "simplicity of
character" is not the same as "simple natured". At least to me, the
idea of any of us being "simple natured" is not as valid a concept as
the opinion that we are a group of generally "good-natured" folk.
Sorry, but "simple" connotes something more akin to the description of a
person who does not have quite all his oars in the water at the same
time.
May I propose that "simplicity of character" is highly appropriate,
especially for our group? As I understand the term, the phrase would
aptly describe one who is forthright, not devious or cunning, lacking of
conniving or subterfuge, but blessed with a feeling of good nature,
humor, well-being and generally an interesting person.
Then again, I could just be too simplistic in my reaction.
