RE: Applying the Deming Philosophy

My opinion on this quote is that it is completely valid. I believe that
efforts to implement a "new" methodology (be it Dr. Deming's or any of the
other "gurus") is that people immediately tamper with the recipe. The
implementers have pre-conceived notions and modify the recipe with no
theory, leave on the "Deming" brand label, and the recipe fails. Of course,
the failure is blamed on "Deming".

Plan do study act would tell us to at least go through the cycle once
without modification to the Philosophy.

If Joyce's reply was - "yes, certainly, company XYZ did it", then the
question asker would be likely to go visit XYZ and copy what they did with
no theory, no thought. If there is no precedence, you are somewhat "forced"
to apply the Philosophy cleanly and puristically.

Note: the issue of copying another companies practices without theory is a
whole 'nother worthy discussion.
