Re: Quality Progress Article

Rich:

No you're not being picky.

Some of your observations occurred to me as well.
The fact is, that Quality Progress is a periodical that is
supported and sponsored by ASQ. It is created, edited, and managed
by professional publication people who may or may not be Quality
Professionals.

Some people still confuse Control Limits with Specifications,
believe it or not. Even some people that call themselves "Quality"
managers, auditors, engineers, etc. It's not surprising that a
writer may commit the same faux-pas (sp?).
I interpreted the statement about selecting certain points to
implement, as their individual approach to, "Starting the
transformation-today". One realistically may not be able to
implement everything all at once.

Mr. Hillerich's reputation and leadership in the Deming Society is
widely touted, and I am sure he is aware of, and has considered
all of Deming's 14 points.
Implementation of the 14 points in terms of company culture is at
least as important as implementation in a lock-step, literal,
verbatim translation.

I'm not in a position to defend QP. I've had my own differences
with them in the past, and I expressed them openly with letters to
the Editor.

I am encouraged however, by their attempt at presenting the WED
approach, and the overall tone of this particular issue which
featuring a couple very effective small companies doing some of
the right things, right.
