Dear DENizens,
When Attending the Deming Seminar in Costa Mesa in 1992, Dr. Deming had a
single point out of control on the upper limit. I believe the count was
around 12 or 13 red beads that the Willing Worker pulled. At that time, he
explained it as a "freak:" one of those situations where the process goes
"out of control," though there is no assignable cause. If I remember
correctly, Dr. Deming mentioned this had happened to him about four times in
his career.
Interesting note: Dr. Deming mentioned during this seminar that he used four
different paddles and containers for the Red Beads during his many years, and
kept all the data for them. The data reflected the changes in the system and
he attributed it the different paddles used.
