Fair enough, but I would suggest also that it makes a great deal of
difference whether one (child or otherwise) learns first how to think, and
not what to think. Of course, in this frenzy of "results-oriented" budgeting
and scrutiny of school systems, that is the last thing on the minds of
school system administrators.  What criterion are the teachers and
administrators possessing? Perhaps what they themselves learned from someone
else, in some other school setting?
