Deciding the Aim of Education

Begin Quote<It is not the purpose of education to
process students into machinists, typists, nurses or any other kind of
employee...
Rather the purpose of education to equip people to become all that they
might (want to) be including productive responsible members of various
employment groups, communities...>End Quote
As much as I wish this was always the case, I am not sure anyone from outside
of an organization is in the position to decide what the aim is for an
organization. It is up to those in that organization to decide what is their
aim. As learners of the Deming philosophy, can we tell those in the
education world what there aim is? I suppose we can try to influence their
choice of aims, but ultimately, if the organization's aim is to produce
trained employees and not responsible, learning industry members, that is
their choice. At least in my opinion.
