Deming Cup

DENizens,
It's no wonder that the DEN provides a haven for lost souls and for others
who are constantly bombarded by bombast in the name of "Deming".
Here I sit developing sound reasoning why a sample contains all within the
sample, and why one member thereof cannot be used to force a distribution
where the data doesn't support it. And now I find another leech, another
tagalong on the coattail of Deming.
Why in god's name would there be a relationship between Deming and another
door prize with gilded edges? Looking at the setup and evaluation for the
Deming Cup, much of it stinks of subjectivism. And where did we link Six
Sigma with Deming? In what I've read I don't recall seeing one thing on
quickie fixes such as having a belt to play with.
Is it any wonder why it is so hard to make a case for quality improvement
when a respected institution such as Columbia presents such drivel as
acceptable fodder for the masses?
I would say that one thing a black belt does for you is get you in the door
if you happen to have one, no matter where you got it or how. After that,
you could just as well be a hack like any other.
You owe it to yourself to check out the site. Maybe I'm just having a
"defend Deming moment". Or, maybe it is just the heat.
