ENBIS conference

DENizens,

I've just returned from the 2nd ENBIS conference in Rimini (22-24
Sept.).
My obviously subjunctive comments:
The growth of understanding by professional statisticians the necessity
of broad implementation of statistical thinking and the theory of
variation into the minds of managers, engineers, technologists, etc.
There were several presentations strictly directed to this point as well
as several discussions at sessions and general meeting. Roland Caulcutt
at the session "statistical consulting" made a very interesting
presentation about the psychological types of clients and consultants
and how they could and/or could not interact with each other. This was
(IMHO) a remarkable illustration of Deming's 4th point of PK.

But one thought disturbed me on my way home: why so many different
groups that seem are going along the same (m.b. wide) road behave as if
they were alone on this way (for ex.: statistical consultants, quality
consultants, Demingists, Lean thinkers, the followers of different gurus
and so on)? Do we need in some kind of unification or not? Surely it
depends on the purpose, and if our purpose is "general prosperity"? Any
thoughts???
