A. What is the difference between a Good Leader and a Good Manager of
People?
Some where in previous papers I cribbed the following example from
somewhere...My memory may not recall it correctly.
Imagine a group of people cutting their way through the forest. The
manager has arranged for:
1. The schedule of the work
2. The training of the workers
` 3. The sharpening of the tools
4. The feeding of the workers
5. Provision for where to sleep
6. Arrangements for comfort stations (latrines)
7. Health monitoring
A leader climbs up a tree and from the topmost vantage point shouts
to everyone:
"We are in the wrong jungle"
The manager shouts back: "Shut up. We are making good progress"
I have posted a few papers on the den which describe what leaders do
and gave a few suggestions on how they do it. See, for example,
"Eleven links in the transformation of a culture"
