"What is wrong with communism?"
The debate about political/social systems has raged since Marx was a =
pup. What's wrong with communism is that it has no standing with =
American business management. Management was Deming's and is my =
audience. Popular American wisdom is that communism is a failed =
ideology that has collapsed. I understand that capitalism is not ideal, =
but it seems to work in the US. I am familar with the arguments about =
the negative effects of capitalism, but that isn't the debate. =
Capitalism is a fact in the US economy. It held in very high reguard. =
One of the easiest ways to lose the audience for improvement systems is =
for one manager to declare, "Oh, Deming was a communist." The =
improvement ideas become not only worthless, but subversive.
I don't think either Deming or his ideas were communistic, but talking =
about cooperation in business seems to be like using sign language to =
communicate with a blind person. =20
