RE: Work-Out

in the past 2 years i have been designing and piloting a version of work-out
for an oil company, and have certainly tried (without i feel too much
difficulty) to align the the design with all SoPK principles to the current
level of my understanding of these - including PDSA

it has great appeal for senior managers because of it's way of delivering
rapid results, as compared with continuous improvement which as applied is
often too slow and inconclusive in their eyes (it need not be this way of
course, but that's how it is frequently applied and/ or viewed)

i am happy to be contacted privately if you have a more specific question,
meanwhile we have written-up our experiences in a short paper entitled "from
bureaucracy busting to creative compliance" on our website www.vista.uk.com

just click on "library" then in the tools & techniques section click on
"bureacracy busting"

the paper includes a high level process and a list of the 11 principles we
designed-in and endeavoured to work to

you will notice an emphais on engagement through good questioning - ever
improving these questions (PDSA)

incidentally, it is no easy ride for senior managers who are under pressure
to sign-off any recommendations made by the X-stakeholder teams

hope this helps you get started roger?

Subject: Work-Out

Does anyone have a view on Work-Out, as used/promoted by GE? It's clearly
not Deming in origin but is it compatible? Would it be fair to call it a
version of PDSA? Where I work we are looking at ways of engaging employees
in continuous improvement and Work-Out has been mentioned, indeed has
enthused one or two senior managers as one possible way ahead.

Thanks for and comment/help.
