THE W. EDWARDS DEMING INSTITUTE

WASHINGTON, D. C.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PREPARE TO EMBRACE THE NEW ECONOMY WITH THE TIMELESS MESSAGE OF
DR. W. EDWARDS DEMING

Don’t just react to the present economy, create the foundation to take advantage of the
future economy.  In this age of downsizing, massive layoffs, and poor morale many
leaders are searching for a new way to conduct business.  Dr. Deming offers a
message for a new management, a map of theory to prepare for the future.

Join The W. Edwards Deming Institute as we host the highly acclaimed ‘Quality,
Productivity, and Competitive Position’, October 13-16, 2003, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The aim of the seminar is to start people on the road to transformation, and to create a
desire for more knowledge.  The route to transformation from the prevailing
management style is what Dr. Deming called Profound Knowledge.  Dr. Deming’s
system of profound knowledge is comprised of four parts, all related to one another:

Appreciation for a System
Knowledge of Psychology
Knowledge About Variation
Theory of Knowledge

Combining direct challenges and deep insights into management, this seminar
includes:
- Interactive exercises to enhance learning, including: The Red Bead Factory, The Red
Squares, Rules of the Funnel, and Management is Prediction.
- Working group activities.
- Facilitation and discussion by experts who studied with Dr. Deming and guided
companies in applying the theories.
- Examples of applications, discussions of how to use this thinking in your company.

Dr. Deming’s theory represents a departure from common modes of thought
concerning appropriate methods for management of system and people.  Although
presented in terms of business management, the seminar material is applicable to
management in every size business and service organization, in education, health
care, government, manufacturing, and has implications for worldwide economic
development.

“Once the individual understands the system of profound knowledge, he will apply its
principles in every kind of relationship with other people. He will have a basis for
judgment of his own decisions and for transformation of the organizations that he
belongs to.”

Dr. W. Edwards Deming
The New Economics

Dr. Deming used his seminars as the primary method to reach large groups of
business leaders with his message.  He conducted seminars over 18 times per year,
both in public and private sessions.  The Las Vegas seminar continues Dr. Deming's
quest to educate leaders in a better theory of management.
