RE: Lack of Deming Philosophy in Education

Steve Cheek provided us with the challenge...
>...What is the single most important aim of Deming's teaching?
> Anybody care to try?

I have always believed that the most important aim of Deming's teaching was
to contribute to the achievement of success and wellbeing of others. As an
educator I enjoyed working WITH colleagues and students to help ensure their
success and well-being. I was grateful for Deming's S0PK which made major
contributions to that end by helping to answer his favourite question (also
quoted by Steve Cheek) "By what method?"

For me being confident about being able to work from a sound basis (data)
and to use well considered methods made it less of a struggle and often lots
of fun (not the aim, as Steve points out) but an important benefit

Have fun, do well AND make it easier for others to do the same,

Ivan Webb
