Hear candid experiences from those who have implemented Deming's
theories. Come to The W. Edwards Deming Institute Washington DC
conference, Deming's Theories in Action, on the weekend of 18-19
October.
Transformation From the Top: John A. Hillerich, III, Chairman of the
Board of Hillerich and Bradsby, will talk about Deming's effect on
production of the Louisville Slugger and the company management in
general. Richard Steele, Chairman and CEO of Peaker Services, and Ian
Bradbury, President, will share how they rebuild and repair large diesel
engines for railroads, power generation and marine companies using
Deming's theories.
Organization as a System: Tom Nolan will share the Deming journey of a
research chemicals producer to the status of the most profitable company
in its industry.
Education: Lew Rhodes will explore the Deming story of a large K-12
school district. Linda Borsum will give an update on what's happening in
education, generally. And Joyce Orsini will discuss implementation of
Deming's theories at Fordham University.
Performance Appraisals: Wally Hauck will discuss the elimination of
performance reviews in the government of the State of Delaware. Paul
Morlock will discuss the Deming influence on compensation and
performance appraisal at the Smyth County Hospital.
Community and Government Transformation: March Jacques will describe how
several communities have used Deming's theories to improve, and identify
some commonalities. David Saunders will describe how a
government-funded jobs training program used Deming's systems thinking
and process improvement methods to see immediate jumps in performance.
Sheila Ronis will talk about process improvements in the federal
government.
Transformation: William Bellows describes how Boeing has linked the
methods of Taguchi, de Bono, and Deming into a powerful 'thinking
network'. Mahesh Chinnagiri and U.H. Acharya will share how the
TAFE-Engineering Plastics Division injection molding company of India,
through sustained effort, brought performance indicators to
unprecedented levels with Deming's ideas.
Nuclear Utility: William Werner will discuss how a nuclear utility rose
from 'the ashes of the worst nuclear accident in US history' to become
the number one utility in the world.
Labor Relations: Jay Wilber will share how UAW-General Motors rose from
confrontation to partnership, using Deming's theories.
Leadership and Culture: Victoria Briant will discuss the transformation
of leadership and culture at a Canadian nuclear generating station and
at a medical diagnostics company in the US.
